Pilates pronounced "pil-arrr-tays", is a form of exercise created by Joseph Pilates back in 1930, as a sickly child he was not given long to live, and through exploring various exercise techniques from boxing to circus training, he built a movement methodology he called Contrology, a fantastic physique, and lived until he was 82!
Joseph used his technique to rehabilitate many soldiers, and also trained dancers.
The methodology was renamed "Pilates" after his death and lived on through his students - many continued his teaching in their own studios
